NITROX
Nitrox diving, also known as enriched air diving, utilizes a gas mix that contains a higher percentage of oxygen than standard air. By becoming Nitrox certified, divers can extend their bottom times and reduce the risk of nitrogen narcosis at deeper depths. This certification is essential for divers looking to explore deeper sites or engage in repetitive dives within a short timeframe.
Course Overview:
Section One: E-Learning (Online Course)
Theory Lessons: Understanding the properties of nitrogen and oxygen, dive planning, and the advantages of using Nitrox.
Equipment Familiarization: Review and safety checks for special Nitrox equipment, including oxygen analyzers and appropriate tank marking.
Section Two: Analyzing and Testing
Practical Skills: Hands-on training in analyzing gas mixtures and adjusting dive computer settings to accommodate for Nitrox use.
Diving Sessions (Optional): Actual dive experience where the learned skills are applied in a controlled environment, usually overseen by an instructor.
Benefits of Nitrox Diving:
Extended Bottom Times: With decreased nitrogen absorption, divers can stay underwater longer compared to regular air.
Reduced Fatigue: Higher oxygen levels can reduce the feeling of tiredness after diving, enhancing overall recovery.
Safety Margin: Provides a larger margin for ascent rates and safety stops, potentially lowering the risk of decompression sickness.
Pre-qualifications:
To enroll in a Nitrox certification course, divers should have a basic Open Water Diver certification or equivalent. A solid understanding of dive planning and safety procedures is also essential.
Materials: Analyzer provided by instructor for testing. For in water or gear use, student must provide their own equipment and gear.
Total Nitrox Package: $275
E-Learning portion: $227
In-person instruction to analyze: $48
